Derek Shropshire, a College of Arts and Sciences Class of 2012 English major, talks about his favorite memory and plans for the future. College of Arts and Sciences Class of 2012 graduate Phillip Tucker, an English and psychology major, talks about today’s commencement ceremony and his plans for the future. In today’s video, alumna Nancy-Anne DeParle, President Barack Obama’s deputy chief of staff, reminisces about some of her favorite UT faculty. Marilyn Kallet is an English professor with a passion for writing, teaching, and performing. She is the author of fourteen books, including the recently published Packing Light: New and Selected Poems. In this video, Marilyn performs five poems (“Packing Light,” “Fig Bread,” “Aimable,” “Jonah on Oprah,” and “Saying Goodbye’) and talks about her inspirations. The school year is underway in Tennessee, and never in our state’s history have we seen such diversity in our students. In particular, the percentage of Hispanic children is at an all-time high, and now UT Extension has a program that prepares these students to excel in school.
